After spending so much time enjoying all the arts and culture Chemnitz have to offer, you may want a little time to relax. And there are plenty of ways to do so. We are one of Germany’s greenest cities, with four parks for you to relax, play and barbecue in. Our city has plenty of open spaces where you can get active and take part in a variety of recreational activities with your family, as well a wealth of cosy beer gardens and restaurants to relax in afterwards. And if you need a little present for your host or the perfect outfit, you’re sure to find one in the city centre. Absorb some our city’s vibrant nightlife in our popular bars and clubs, and if you’re feeling up to it, take a trip out to the nearby Erzgebirge mountains the morning after.
Chemnitz is not just a city of arts and culture, modernity and industry, but also the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors. An impressive 1,000 hectares make up the green lungs of the city and are just asking to be explored. Despite the hustle and bustle of the city centre, it’s easy to recharge your batteries here. And one of the best ways to do so is to get active and be the charger yourself, perhaps by joining a cycle tour around Chemnitz with Radler-Rast, the best of which takes in Wasserschloß Klaffenbach.
If you’re a more serious rider, entries are still open for the Fichtelberg Cycling Marathon on 12 June 2016. Join around 900 other riders from across Germany in this race from Chemnitz to the top of the highest mountain in Saxony, the Fichtelberg.
The 1,200 places available for the 10th anniversary Heavy24 24-hour mountain bike race around the Oberrabenstein reservoir sold out within just 3 hours. Although you may not be able to compete yourself until 2017, there will still be plenty of fun to be had watching and cheering on the riders this year. This will be the 10th time the race has taken place in Chemnitz, and over the years, it has become one of the largest and most well-known events of its kind in Germany – a firm fixture in any mountain biker’s calendar.
2017 will also see another big sporting event added to Chemnitz’s calendar: The German National Road Race Championships Our city has always had a passion for cycling and racing, and what better way to celebrate this than by hosting such an important event. The weekend of the championships will also include a varied programme of supplementary events and a festival celebrating Chemnitz’s love of the sport.
